Where do I meet the boat?
Public Water Taxi Dock, 72 Commercial St, Portland, ME 04101 (in Portland's Old Port).  Paid parking is available in nearby garages and surface lots. This is a shared dock so no specific signage is posted at this location. Your vessel will arrive a few minutes prior to your departure time.  Restrooms are available at the Casco Bay Lines Ferry Terminal.

What should I bring?
  • Sunglasses
  • Sunscreen
  • Cameras, Camcorders, etc.
  • You may bring your own snack and beer/wine are available for purchase on board.
  • Comfortable flat-soled shoes or sandals
  • A light jacket or rain jacket in case of cool, windy, or wet weather-  A good rule of thumb is that it will feel about 10 degrees colder on the water than on land.
What if the weather is bad?
Our mission is to provide our guests with a fantastic experience on the water.  We do operate during rainy or foggy weather, but if we feel conditions will not allow an enjoyable experience, we will happily offer rebooking (on a space available basis) or cancellation with a full refund.  The Captain has the discretion to determine whether conditions are considered adverse. Portland Harbor Water Tours will make every effort to contact guests 24 hours in advance should there be concern of potentially adverse conditions.
What is your cancellation policy?
Tickets are fully refundable up to 10 days prior to departure.  Within 10 days of departure, tickets are NOT refundable, but can be rebooked on a space available basis.  Tours cancelled by Portland Harbor Water Tours due to adverse weather or sea conditions will be fully refunded.
How many people can you carry?
MARIE L can accommodate up to 28 passengers, depending on use.  ELIZABETH GRACE can transport up to 37 passengers, although for daily tours, we will cap it at 24.

Which boat will we be aboard?
Daily tours will use either the MARIE L, a beautifully restored wooden passenger cruiser built right here in Casco Bay in 1950.  We  may also use the ELIZABETH GRACE, our vintage Navy Launch that has a passenger capacity of up to 37.  Regardless of the vessel, all of our tours will include both a licensed captain and a tour guide who will point out historic sights, wildlife, and other points of interest.  Your guide is also happy to assist with photos and any questions while on the water.

Can children come on board?
Yes!  Our charters and tours are perfect for the entire family.  Children under 10 are encouraged to wear life jackets, which we provide.

What is provided on board?
PHWT provides a licensed captain and deckhand for each tour.  Your deckhand will serve as your tour guide and is happy to provide beer and wine for purchase while on board. You may bring your own snacks if you wish, these vessels do not have an onboard galley, they are not stocked with utensils, glassware, or plates.  Guests should bring any cups, plates, serving utensils, etc. that may be needed to enjoy any food they wish to bring aboard. We accept all major credit cards and cash to pay for drinks.

How do we make a reservation?
Go to our Ticket Page, select your tour and book using a credit card on our payment processing site - peek.com.

Can guests bring food on board?
Yes!  Our guests are welcome to bring aboard any food they desire.

Can guests bring alcohol?

No, but you can purchase it on board. Alcohol may be responsibly consumed by our guests of legal age.  Please note that per federal regulations, marijuana or marijuana-containing products cannot be brought on board despite recent changes under Maine State law.

Is there a bathroom on board?
MARIE L is equipped with an environmentally friendly composting toilet.  The “head” or bathroom compartment is small, but private and functional, similar to the lavatory on a regional jet.  ELIZABETH GRACE is not equipped with a head but does have a small toilet on board for "urgent" situations.  Restroom facilities are available at Casco Bay Lines Ferry Terminal.

What about seasickness?
Generally, this isn’t a problem...knock on wood.  Many of our routes are well protected within Casco Bay, and we watch weather and sea forecasts closely and plan ahead to provide as smooth an experience as possible.  If we are worried conditions will not be favorable, we will contact you in advance to discuss options.

What about tipping?  Is it required?
Tips are not required, but if you wish to acknowledge the excellent service of your captain and deckhand, they are graciously accepted.
